Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
MUDBUGS EMERGE VICTORIOUS ON VALENTINE'S DAY
The Mudbugs trailed 3-1 entering the third period on Wednesday evening at the Budweiser Events Center. Bossier-Shreveport scored three straight goals to hand Colorado its first loss in 28 games when leading after two periods of play. Chris Gustafson's 5-3 power play goal started the scoring in the final stanza. Cam Abbott scored shorthanded to tie the game, and then his brother Chris scored the final goal to give the Mudbugs their first win of the year against Colorado.
SECOND PERIOD SCARE ENDS IN OT WIN
The Mudbugs surrendered a 4-1 lead in the second period to the Rocky Mountain Rage, only to come back from down one and take the win in overtime. Cam Abbott sent a feed to a pinching Ryan Fairbarn whose goal evened the game at 5-5. It only took 17 seconds in OT for the Abbott's to steal the show. Chris Abbott collected a drop pass from Cam Abbott and fired it past David Guerra to secure two points for the Bugs.
MUDBUGS ROUTE EAGLES IN FINAL GAME OF THE ROAD TRIP
Five goals in the third period set a single season high for goals in a game as the Mudbugs closed out the road trip with a 9-5 victory against Colorado. Cam Abbott tied a Mudbugs franchise record with four goals in a game. Chris Brassard also had a hat trick plus two assists in tying a franchise record for the second most points scored in a single Mudbugs game. It was the first time in Colorado Eagles history that a visiting team was able to score more than six goals.
RAYZ FIGHT TO THE END ON TUESDAY NIGHT
A pair of goals wouldn't be enough for a regulation win as the Corpus Christi Rayz evened the game when Adam Powell capitalized on a turnover and beat John DeCaro at 12:12 in the third period. Chris Brassard and Daniel Pegoraro froze the goaltender on beautiful backhand dekes. Forbes MacPherson's breakaway shot slid through the five-hole to end the shootout. John DeCaro's stopped 25 of 27 shot and four of five shooters in the shootout on his way to collecting his 18th win.
MUDBUGS STARS OF THE WEEK
CAM ABBOTT - Nine points in three road games earns him a star. He's the first Mudbugs rookie to score four goals in a game.
CHRIS BRASSARD - Five points on Saturday against Colorado puts him on the list for the second straight week, plus his second career Mudbugs hat trick.
CHRIS ABBOTT - Game-winning goals against Colorado and Rocky Mountain grant this rookie star status, plus fourteen points in a six game road swing.
