Youngstown SteelHounds News Release

The Youngstown SteelHounds began their three game road trip with a bang as they were able to upend the Wichita Thunder 3-2 in a shootout on Wednesday night. The fourth meeting in six days for the two teams started with a bang for the Thunder as Scott Rozendal scored at the 10 minute mark to put Wichita up one after the first period.

In the second period Youngstown answered as former Thunder player Tab Lardner scored his 16th of the season, this a shorthanded goal to tie the game at one just 3:07 into the second period. The Hounds took the lead just four minutes later when Mark Johnson scored his seventh of the season to put the Hounds up 2-1 after 40 minutes of play.

Joe Blaznek put the Thunder back in business as he scored to tie the game at two at the 7:46 mark of the third period. Youngstown appeared to take the lead with just six minutes to play but the Y-Town goal was waived off by the referee for being kicked into the net.

For the second straight time these two teams skated to a shootout but this time the Hounds answered the bell with Jeff Christian, Chris Shaffer and Chris Richards who got the game winner scoring for the Hounds as they won the shootout 3-1 and take a 3-2 victory over Wichita on Wednesday night.

The win for the Hounds moves them into a tie with Oklahoma City for the fourth seed in the CHL Northern Conference Standings with a record 24-16-9 (57pts). The Thunder improve to 22-21-7 (51pts) and now have a four point lead on Tulsa for the sixth and final playoff spot.

The Hounds stay on the road and play the first place Memphis RiverKings on Friday night for an 8:05 start with all of the action coming live on steelhounds.com and ESPN Radio 1240-The Fan.
