Mudbugs Take Over Top Spot in CHL Coaches' Poll

February 21, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

For the first time since December 6th, a new team sits atop the Central Hockey League Coaches' Poll, with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs selected as the top club this week through balloting of all CHL Head Coaches. The Mudbugs received six first place votes (up from two last week) and 146 total points to narrowly edge both the Colorado Eagles (who had held the top ranking for the last seven polls) and the Memphis Riverkings. Colorado (six first place votes) and Memphis (five first place votes) share second spot, both with 143 poll points.

Voters took notice of Bossier-Shreveport's success during their most recent road trip through Ohio and Colorado, posting a 5-1-0 record including 4-3 and 9-5 wins at Colorado to hand the injury riddled Eagles just their third and fourth home losses of the season. Despite a superb record of 24-3-2 since December 7th, Bossier-Shreveport still trails both the Eagles (three points) and RiverKings (two points) in the overall CHL standings and the race for the Governors' Cup regular season title and home ice advantage throughout the Ray Miron President's Cup playoffs.

The Southeast Division's Laredo Bucks and Corpus Christi Rayz remained in positions #4 and #5 respectively this week, while the Oklahoma City Blazers (#7 to #6) and Youngstown SteelHounds (#9 to #7) both gain ground. No club dropped out or joined the Top 10 for just the second time this season.

Throughout the season the CHL will release the results of the Coaches Poll. Each first place selection earns 10 points, second place earns 9 points, etc. Coaches cannot vote for their own team, creating a potential perfect score of 160 points should one club receive all 16 possible first place votes. Previous week results listed below current week.
