THUNDER STRUCK DOWN - On Thursday night, the Mudbugs got two goals from Chad Spurr and 35 saves from goaltender David Cacciola for a 5-2 victory over the Wichita Thunder at the CenturyTel Center. Their third straight win started quickly with a goal from Chad Spurr at :44 of the first period, but Wichita answered six minutes later with a tying goal from Tab Lardner. Two minutes later, Chris Brassard continued his hot streak with a breakaway goal, his third of the year. However, Wichita tied the game again as Matt Hanson scored his first professional goal at 10:15. But just over a minute later, Shane Palahicky jammed a Chad Spurr pass into the Thunder net to end the night of Wichita goaltender Sebastien Laplante and give the Mudbugs a 3-2 lead. After a scoreless second period, Brett Smith scored on the power play in the third and Spurr added a shorthanded empty-netter for the 5-2 win. Cacciola made 20 saves in the final two periods to improve to 3-1-1 in his rookie season.

MEMPHIS HOLDS OFF THE BUGS - On Friday night, the Mudbugs suffered a 4-2 loss against the Memphis RiverKings at the DeSoto Civic Center. The Mudbugs remain in first place in the Northeast Division with a 12-10-2 record overall this season. Memphis built a 3-0 lead with first period goals from Darrell Stoddard and Ryan Campbell. Kevin Harris tallied in the second period on a delayed penalty call to increase the lead, but the Mudbugs finally answered at 18:23 of the frame as Dan Wildfong scored from the left circle. In the third period, Milan Vodrazka would score his first goal with the Mudbugs as a Quade Lightbody pass was tipped into the net to make it a one-goal game. However, Memphis was able to hang on and sealed the win with an empty-net goal from Stoddard with thirty seconds left in the game.
