HIDALGO, Texas - The Laredo Bucks gutted out a tough 3-1 win on Tuesday night over the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at the Dodge Arena in front of 5,589 fans. Bucks goalie Dov Grumet-Morris stopped 31 of 32 shots to help the Bucks end the Killer Bees franchise record six game win streak. Laredo is now 17-8-3, a season high nine games over .500, and they increase their lead in the Southeast Division to eight points over the Killer Bees. The Bucks return home on Wednesday against the Corpus Christi Rayz. Face off is set for 7 p.m. Fans can take advantage of four tickets for forty dollars. Laredo scored the only goal of the first period as defenseman Paul Elliott teed up a slap shot from the top of the left circle through a screen at 13:09 for a power play goal. Elliott's third of the season made it 1-0 Bucks.
The Bucks extended their lead in the second period. Defenseman Phillippe Lauze scored on a one-timer from the top of the left circle at 9:40 to make it 2-0 Laredo. It was the second of the season for Lauze. With less than a minute to go in the frame the Killer Bees got back in the game. Rio forward Matic Kralj led a two-on-one rush down the left wing and scored high stick side with a wrister with just 35.7 seconds left in the period.
In the third period the Bucks played solid defensive hockey to protect the lead. With 11 seconds left forward Chris Grenville sealed the win with an empty net goal for his eleventh of the year. It was the third straight game with a goal scored for Grenville. FINAL SCORE Laredo 3, Rio Grande Valley 1.
Grumet-Morris gave up just one goal to improve to 5-2-1. Evan Lindsey allowed two goals on 30 shots and fell to 11-7-1. The Bucks were 1-3 on the power play, while Rio Grande Valley was 0- 2. The three power play chances represented a season low for the Bucks as did the two shorthanded chances. The Killer Bees out shot the Bucks 32-31.
