Youngstown SteelHounds News Release
Southhaven, MS. - The Youngstown SteelHounds (11-15-1) took nearly 50 minutes to find the offense against the Memphis Riverkings (10-13-1) and by that time it was too late as they fall to Memphis 3-1. The win was the third in a row for Memphis who was led by Ryan Campbell and Derek Landmesser who each had a goal and an assist. David St. Germain made 41 saves in the losing effort as Youngstown was outshot 44-25 in the game. Bill Mosler scored the only goal of the game for the Hounds, his first professional goal.
Memphis scored the first goal of the game using the only weapon they have showed consistency with this season, the power play (19.3%, best in the CHL). The SteelHounds successfully killed off a 5-on-3 Memphis power play but when just one man down inadvertently kicked a Dorian Anneck pass into the net. Anneck was credited with his 11th goal of the season, eighth on the power play, assisted by Peter Robertson and Ryan Watson at the 4:56 mark of the opening frame. Memphis outshot the Hounds 16-4 in the period as David St. Germain continued his strong play (.967 save percentage in his last four games) stopping 15 shots. Guy St. Vincent saw limited action in front of hi making four saves.
The Riverkings owned the second period outshooting the Hounds 16-5 and scoring twice with the special teams once again taking center stage. Memphis' second goal came via the shorthanded variety as the Hounds miss-fired on a pass in the offensive zone that led to a Ryan Campbell breakaway that he scored his 11th goal of the season on. It was the ninth shorthanded goal allowed by the Hounds this season. Memphis added to their lead with a 4-on-3 power play goal scored by Derek Landmesser, his sixth goal and team-leading 29th point of the season, assisted by Campbell and Robertson. Through two periods, the Riverkings outshot the Hounds 32-9.
Youngstown put the pressure on in the third period generating XXX shots on goal and scoring the period's only goal. The Hounds goal came at the midway point of the period with Bill Mosler scoring his first professional goal assisted by Kelly Sickavish. Youngstown kept the pressure up late in the period and had several chances to get the game to within a goal by St. Vincent saved his best for last making 15 third period saves improving his record to 6-6.
David St. Germain falls to 7-10-1 but for the fith time this year stopped more than 40 shots making 41 saves on the night.
The Riverkings went 2 for 13 on the power play making them 6 for 30 on the year in two games versus the Hounds. Youngstown had just five PP chances and failed to score with the man advantage.
The road trip continues for Youngstown on Thursday night in Wichita with a 8:05 PM (EST) face-off versus the Thunder.
