Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release


WILDFONG, SHEPPARD, MACPHERSON SHINE – Dan Wildfong scored two goals and rookie Scott Sheppard introduced himself to the CenturyTel Center crowd with two goals of his own as the Mudbugs downed the Fort Worth Brahmas in their season opening game on Friday night. 7,589 fans were in attendance as the 2004-2005 hockey season kicked off in a big way with the largest opening night crowd in team history. The eighth season of Mudbugs hockey got started quickly with an early Bugs power play chance and Craig Soke capitalized to give the hometown team a 1-0 lead. Dan Wildfong and Scott Sheppard would then score two goals and an assist each and Forbes MacPherson added three assists for a 5-2 victory. Ken Carroll earned his first victory of the season by making 26 saves, including a point-blank stop on former NHL'er Lonny Bohonos from the slot early in the third period. The win was the tenth in a row for the Mudbugs against the Fort Worth Brahmas dating back to last season.

POWER PLAY WITH SCOTT MUSCUTT RETURNS – Tomorrow night, "Power Play with Scott Muscutt" will return live to the Sundance Cantina at Boomtown Casino in Bossier City. The hour-long radio show has been moved back to 6:00 p.m. and will take place every Tuesday night (team travel permitting) throughout the 2004-2005 Mudbugs hockey season. Each show, hosted by Mudbugs play-by-play broadcaster Steve Mears, will once again feature various hockey guests in addition to Coach Muscutt, questions from the audience, and live prize giveaways. Tomorrow's guests will include new team captain Forbes MacPherson and Mudbugs beat writer Roy Lang from the Shreveport Times. BUGS NOW ONLINE AT SPORTSJUICE.COM – For the 2004-2005 season, the Mudbugs have teamed up with www.sportsjuice.com to broadcast all regular season and playoff games on the internet. Sportjuice.com is one of the premier broadcast sites for minor-pro sports on the world wide web and fans can also tune in via the Mudbugs website (www.mudbugshockey.com).

NEW IN-HOUSE FREQUENCY – The Mudbugs have changed their in-arena radio station to 88.1 FM for the 2004-2005 season. Fans seated inside the CenturyTel Center can bring their headset radios and listen to the play-by-play broadcast while watching the game live by tuning into the new frequency.

MUDBUGS IN THE COMMUNITY

October 27th – K94.5 FM Morning Show – Mudbugs defenseman Chad Kemp will play "The Dating Game" with three finalists from the "Win a Date with a Mudbug" contest between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.

October 27th – Benton Elementary – Mudbugs forwards Lyle Steenbergen and Shane Palahicky will speak and sign autographs at a Drug Awareness assembly on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.

THIS WEEK – On Thursday, the Mudbugs will host a special "Election Night" at the CenturyTel Center as they take on the Topeka Tarantulas for the first time ever. The team will wear special patriotic election jerseys which will be auctioned off to fans immediately following the game. On Friday night, the Oklahoma City Blazers will host the Mudbugs at 7:35 p.m. at the Ford Center in a game that will only be broadcast on the internet at www.sportsjuice.com or www.chltv.com. Then on Saturday night, the Bugs will travel to Fort Worth to take on the Brahmas once again at 7:30 p.m. which will be broadcast on News Radio 710 AM KEEL.
