CHL Names Oakley Player, Goaltender of the Week

October 25, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

Left Winger Scott Allison of the Wichita Thunder and netminder Scott Reid have been selected as the first weekly awards winners in the 2004-2005 Central Hockey League season. Allison scored four goals and added two assists in a pair of Wichita victories to earn Oakley CHL Player of the Week honors, while Reid made 56 saves and posted a 94.9 save percentage in two San Angelo wins en route to selection as the Oakley CHL Goaltender of the Week.

Wichita's Allison, a former first round selection in the NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers, quickly endeared himself to Thunder fans by scoring twice in his first game with the club, providing both goals in a 2-0 shutout win at Topeka on October 22nd. The following night he made his home debut, and enjoyed a four-point game in a 6-4 victory over New Mexico with two goals and two assists. Also receiving strong consideration for the award were Austin's Benoit Genesse (five goals, two assists in three games), Fort Worth's Chad Woollard (four goals, assist in two game) and defending CHL Most Valuable Player Jeff Bess, who had five goals in three contests, including a hat-trick in the Bucks 4-2 home win October 23rd.

San Angelo's Reid, last season's CHL Most Outstanding Goaltender, enjoyed a successful 2-0-0 start with home victories over Laredo and Odessa. In the Saints home opener October 22nd, he turned aside 27 of 28 Laredo shots in a 4-1 victory, then made 29 saves the following night in a 4-2 win over Odessa. Reid was superb last season with San Angelo, winning 25 games while posting a goals against average of 2.27 and a CHL-leading save percentage of .938. Others also considered for the honor were Wichita's Jamie Vandespyker (2-0-0, 56 saves on 60 shots) and Colorado's Tyler Weiman (a fifth round draft selection by the Colorado Avalanche in 2002), who recorded a 31-save 3-0 shutout in his first pro start.
