Mudbugs Set CHL Scoreless Minute Record

November 14, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

With their third straight shutout on Tuesday night, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs stepped into the CHL record book by running their scoreless streak to 192:29, two seconds better than the previous CHL record of 192:27 set during the 2001-02 season by the Tulsa Oilers. The Mudbugs have also tied a CHL mark with their third consecutive shutout.

During the Mudbugs shutout streak, John DeCaro (the CHL's Outstanding Goaltender last season during his rookie campaign) has earned two of the three wins and Ken Carroll the other. For Carroll, it was his CHL record-tying 22nd shutout tying Rod Branch for the all-time record. The Mudbugs started the season 0-5-1 but have turned it around in November winning four straight games while allowing just one goal in those victories.

The previous scoreless minute record was set by the previously mentioned Branch when he played with the Tulsa Oilers in February of 2002. Branch personally had three consecutive shutouts joining Odessa's Mike Gorman (2002-03) as the only CHL goaltenders to achieve that accomplishment. The three consecutive shutouts stands as the CHL record giving the Mudbugs the opportunity to erase history by blanking the Mississippi RiverKings on Saturday night in Mississippi.

Earlier this season, the Laredo Bucks posted 171:09 without allowing a goal seeing the tandem of Dustin Traylen and Kevin Beech each participate in that streak. The Bucks stinginess sits as the fourth longest shutout streak in CHL history.

Individually, DeCaro has 132:29 consecutive shutout minutes and Ken Carroll has 60:05. The CHL individual record was set during the 2002-03 season (Nov. 28-Dec. 7) by Indianapolis' Shawn Silver who managed to keep the puck out of the net for 222:01.
