Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

AUSTIN, TX-- The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs crawled back from a 2-1 deficit in hard fought game in Austin on Saturday night. Unfortunately it was the Ice Bats who emerged victorious in the sixth round of a shootout.

The Mudbugs began the scoring for the second night in a row as Chris Murphy took a beautiful feed from Mike Nason in the slot and burried it past goaltender Miguel Beaudry at 2:26.

The Ice Bats would storm back in the second period on breakaway opportunities. Aaron Davis evened the gamed at 4:39 on a short handed goal. Then Julian Smith caught the Mudbugs on a bad line change. He beat John DeCaro top shelf at 11:40 in the second period to give Austin a one goal lead.

Chris Brassard would even the game on rocket of a slapshot off a drop pass by Mike Nason at 3:35 in the third period. After a five minute overtime period the game remained knotted up at 2-2. In the shootout it was Jim Sprott who evened the score up in the fourth round on a backhand deke. The shootout eventually progressed to a sixth round. Mike Possin of Austin would go on to beat John DeCaro top shelf, and Joseph Ori was unable to tie the score in the bottom portion of the sixth round.

The Mudbugs lost 3-2 but do pick up their first hard earned point of the year. They return to Bossier City for their home opener against Laredo on Thursday night.
