Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League today announced their first new player signing of the 2009 offseason with the addition of veteran forward Shawn Limpright. Limpright becomes the third veteran and 12th player signed by the Mudbugs for the coming 2009-2010 season.
"Throughout his career, Shawn has demonstrated all the qualities that we look for in a Mudbugs player," said Head Coach Scott Muscutt. "He is a prolific two way player who has displayed great leadership for teams he has played for in the past. He brings a nice combination of grit, scoring ability around the net and great playmaking skills. I'm thrilled to be adding Shawn Limpright to this hockey team."
Limpright, 28, joins the Mudbugs for his eighth professional season after skating with the ECHL's Las Vegas Wranglers for the past five years. During his time in Las Vegas, Limpright became the all-time franchise leader in games played, assists, points and penalty minutes. He was a teammate of Mudbugs goaltender John DeCaro last season as the Wranglers advanced to the ECHL's National Conference Finals.
The 5-11, 185-pound winger also wore the "C" as the Wranglers' Captain last season in addition to serving as an Assistant Captain (06-07) and Co-Captain (07-08) during his tenure there. Over his five years in Las Vegas, Limpright averaged 11 goals, 26 assists, 37 points and 125 penalty minutes per season.
"To get the opportunity to play for a winning team is what I wanted, and I'm really looking forward to playing in Bossier-Shreveport," Limpright commented. "I still have a lot of drive left, and the Mudbugs are the right fit for me. It will be a nice change and hopefully we'll get the result we're looking for. Between the guys coming back and us new guys, I think we'll have a legitimate shot at winning."
The St. Adolphe, Manitoba native played his first two professional seasons with the ECHL's Roanoke Express, enjoying a career year in 2003-04. He was named to the 2004 ECHL All-Star Game after contributing 18 goals, 35 points and 86 penalty minutes in just 27 games with the Express that season. He spent the rest of the year with the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League, scoring nine goals, 18 points and 80 PIMs in 45 AHL games.
Limpright then began the 2004-05 season with the ECHL's Dayton Bombers before being re-assigned to Las Vegas by the Crunch and their parent club, the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets. In 405 games as a pro, he has totaled nearly 300 points and over 900 minutes in penalties.
"I like to think of myself as a leader on and off the ice," Limpright said of his game. "I like to make plays and set guys up to score goals. If I get a chance to make a big hit, I'm going to take it, and I'm not afraid to stick up for myself or for my teammates if I need to."
Prior to his rookie year of in 2002-03, Limpright played four seasons of Canadian Major Junior hockey for the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League. He finished with 93 goals, 127 assists, 220 points and 540 penalty minutes in 264 career games with the Warriors.
The Mudbugs will begin their 13th season in Bossier-Shreveport on Friday, October 16 against the Laredo Bucks at CenturyTel Center. Season ticket packages for 2009-2010 are available now, so call (318) 752-BUGS or visit our website at www.mudbugshockey.com for more information.
