Muckdogs Game Notes
July 16, 2018 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Batavia Muckdogs News Release
Today's Game- The Muckdogs look to slavage the last game of the series against the Lowell Spinners (Boston Red Sox). This is the only series the two teams play all season. Last year, Batavia took two from the Spinners at Dwyer Stadium.
That was last night- The Spinners took game two of the series by putting up four runs in the seventh inning. The Muckdogs were only able to muster two runs on seven hits as they lost 6-2. Michael Donadio went 3-4 with a triple shy of the cycle. Batavia dropped their third straight and now five of the last seven games.
Donadio digging in- Michael Donadio has now hits in seven of his last eight games. He's tallied nine hits, and has crossed the plate five times in that span. He is second on the team with two home runs. He left St. John's with the second most all-time hits with 268.
Reynolds Raking- Sean Reynolds has been able to find the power in his bat this season. He currently is tied for the league lead in home runs and is tied for second in RBI's and runs scored. He is also tied for the league lead in walks with 19.
Flipping the script- To start off the season, Batavia had settled themselves within the top five in the NYPL in batting average and runs, but have since slipped from that peak. Meanwhile, the opposite has happened for the pitching staff. The Muckdogs arms have now settled with the sixth best ERA in the league after starting off in the bottom end of the league.
Runs, Runs, Runs- Batavia has some of the top scorers in the league, with Sean Reynolds who is second in the league with 20 runs scored, Jerar Encarnacion and Demetrius Sims with 15 in sixth place. The Muckdogs have three of the top seven run scorers in the league, and sit in sixth in total runs scored with 129 total runs this season.
Beginning from behind- The Muckdogs have had trouble with giving up early leads in ballgames. Batavia has trailed after the fifth inning on 16 different occasions so far this season, and have gone 4-12 in those contests.
Recent Roster Action- On July 16th, 3B Bubba Hollins was assigned to Batavia, and INF Chris Torres was transfered to the GCL Marlins.
Marlins Update- In the final game before the All-Star break, Miami doubled up the Phillies 10-5, former Muckdog Brian Anderson hit a three run homer, and also scored two runs.
