Batavia Muckdogs News Release
Today's Game- The Muckdogs wrap up their second series agaisnt the Doubledays with tonight's game. Batavia is 1-4 on the season against Auburn this season so far, with the only win coming in Falcon Park.
That was yesterday- The second game was much different than the first game of the series. Last night the Muckdogs lost a tight contest by the score 3-1. Batavia trailed 1-0 after five, but in the sixth they would tie it up 1-1. The bottom part of the frame
Offense Overload- In eight of the first 13 games, Batavia has managed to score at least six runs in each of those contests. Batavia has one of the top scorers in the league, with Jerar Encarnacion sitting in first place with 15 runs scored, and Sean Reynolds in second with 12.
Exploding Encarnacion- Jerar Encarnacion has been on a tear to start off the season. On his current eleven game hit streak to open the year, he's hitting .479. He leads the league in hits (23). He's second in doubles (6), third in extra base hits (7) and sits atop the league with his .479 average and his .500 OBP. He also has the most defensive assists by any outfielder in the league with three, all coming on June 19th against West Virginia.
Beginning from behind- The Muckdogs have had trouble with giving up early leads in ballgames. Batavia has trailed after the fifth inning on nine different occasions so far this season, and have gone 2-7 in those contests.
Turning up the heat- Batavia's offense in the last five games has seen more batters pick things up on offense. JD Osborne has hit .389 in the last five games with seven hits and two RBIs. Sean Reynolds has added a .368 average with a home run and eight RBIs in the last five games.
Familiar foes- The Doubledays and the Muckdogs meet nine more times this season, the most of any other team in the league. The next series comes around on August 8th for one game at Falcon Park, then two at Dwyer Stadium.
Recent Roster Action- On June 27th, Harrison White, Logan Boyd, and Doug Domnarski were all released. Jeremy Ovalle was called up to Greensboro. Batavia added five pitchers: Martin Anderson, Tanner Andrews, Even Estes, Tyler Mitzel, and Chris Vallimont. Infielder Luke Jarvis was assigned to Batavia
Marlins Update- Miami beat the New York Mets 8-2 last night. Sandy Alcantara made his MLB debut in the game, he gave up just one run over five innings pitched. The Marlins cranked two homers in the game, with Brinson and Riddle each going deep to power Miami to their eight runs.
