Vermont Mountaineers News Release
MONTPELIER, Vt.- The Vermont Mountaineers picked up their fourth win in a row on Monday night, as they topped the Winnipesaukee Muskrats 6-2 in New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) action.
The Mountaineers broke open a tie game in the sixth when Mike Osinski (Vestal, N.Y./Longwood) singled and then scored on an error by the Muskrats' catcher. From there, Vermont never looked back, as they got insurance runs in the seventh and eighth.
Joe Tietjen (Waxhaw, N.C./UNC Asheville) got the Vermont offense going with two outs in the bottom of the first, when he launched a solo home run over the left field fence. The homer was Tietjen's fourth on the season, and it gave the Mountaineers an early lead.
Teitjen came around to score again in the third inning when he singled and scored after Mike Osinski reached on an error by Winnipesaukee's shortstop.
The Mountaineers got three and one third innings out of starter Rayne Supple (Shelburne, Vt./Wake Forest), who allowed two runs on three hits. The righty fanned four and walked three.
Winnipesaukee started Paul Campbell (Revere, Mass./Clemson), who pitched for six innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits. Campbell allowed just two walks and he struck out eight.
The Mountaineers got a pair of runs in the seventh inning to extend their lead. The Muskrats walked Tietjen with the bases loaded, allowing third baseman Jeremy McCuin (Gilbert, Ariz./Arizona St.) to score. Troy Scocca (Syosset, N.Y./Fairfield) hit a sacrifice fly one batter later, driving in Trevor Ezell (Alexander, Ark./Southeast Missouri) from third.
McCuin knocked an RBI double with one out in the bottom of the eighth to cap the Mountaineers' scoring on the day.
Both of Winnipesaukee's runs came from home runs. Ryan Stekl (Lancaster, N.Y./Canisius) launched one in the second to put the 'Skrats on the board, and then Keivan Berges (Wellington, Fla./Northwood) went yard in the third.
Fitzpatrick Stadler (Glenview, Ill./Arizona St.) got the win for Vermont after he came in and pitched three and two thirds innings, allowing no runs on just a pair of hits. Stadler didn't walk anyone, and struck out four. Chandler Sedat (West Bloomfield, Mich./Indiana) came in after Stadler and pitched two scoreless frames, earning him the save.
Paul Campbell suffered the loss for the Muskrats.
The Mountaineers improve to 14-15 on the season. Vermont will be in action again on Tuesday night when they'll host the North Adams SteepleCats. First pitch is set for 6:30 PM at Montpelier Recreation Field. The game can be heard locally on CBS Sports 1240 AM WSKI or online through The NECBL Broadcast Network.
