Mountaineers Rained Out
August 1, 2015 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Vermont Mountaineers News Release
MONTPELIER, Vt. - Saturday night's New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) regular season finale between the Sanford Mainers and Vermont Mountaineers has been canceled due to inclement weather in Central Vermont.
At 3:15 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, heavy rainfall saturated Recreation Field, making the surface unplayable, before the grounds crew had an opportunity to lay the tarp down.
The game will not be made up, as the two teams' playoff standings have already been determined. Vermont concludes the regular season with a 25-16 overall mark, good for first place in the Northern Division. The Mainers end the 2015 campaign with a 23-18 record, placing them in second in the Northern Division. Both teams will be home for Round 1 of the postseason. The Laconia Muskrats and North Adams SteepleCats will conclude their respective seasons tonight, as the two sides jockey for the third and fourth playoff positions.
The 2015 postseason will begin on Monday evening. The Mountaineers will host either the Muskrats or SteepleCats for a 6:30 p.m. contest at Recreation Field to open the Northern Division semifinal round. The game can be heard locally on CBS Sports 1240 WSKI and online at thevermontmountaineers.com.
