Sacramento Mountain Lions News Release

Sacramento, CA - TUESDAY, May 17, 2011 - The Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League signed five players following this weekend's OPEN PLAYER TRYOUTS in Sacramento.

A total of 245 PLAYERS tried out for HEAD COACH DENNIS GREEN and his entire coaching staff. Saturday's tryouts were held at Foothill High while Sunday's took place at Natomas High. About the same number of players tried out on each day. Sunday's tryout was cut a little short because of bad weather conditions (thunder and lightning).

The Mountain Lions signed ERIC AROGBOFA (tight end, Tuskegee University), DANIEL CATALANO (defensive end, Northern Michigan University), JT GILMORE (linebacker, Western Oregon University), ADAM TAFRALIS (quarterback, San Jose State) and MARCUS SMITH (defensive lineman, University of Arizona) after the Sacramento tryouts.

Sacramento also signed two players following an open player tryout held in San Diego on May 7. The Mountain Lions signed tight end DOMINIQUE JONES (Shepherd University) and defensive end BRIAN COULTER (University of Missouri) following that tryout.

The Sacramento tryouts over the weekend were the final open player tryouts of the year for the Mountain Lions.

"We had an exciting weekend of two tryouts in Sacramento," Green said. "We were really impressed with a lot of players at the tryouts, but we did not want these particular (five) players to leave with out knowing of our willingness to commit to them on the spot. They have the talent and potential to help us be a tremendous team in our upcoming season."

Tafralis, who grew up in Millbrae (Mills High School), started at quarterback at San Jose State from 2004-07 and still holds some school records. He was not drafted in the 2008 NFL Draft but the Indianapolis Colts signed him that same year. After being released by the Colts he was with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (Canadian Football League) until April of this year. His father Gregg competed in the 1992 Olympics in the shot put.

Smith, raised in San Diego before starring at Arizona, has spent two seasons as a practice squad player in the NFL (Dallas Cowboys, 2007; Buffalo Bills, 2008). He has also played in the CFL with the Montreal Alouettes.

Arogbofa finished up at Tuskegee in 2005 while Catalano and Gilmore both concluded their college careers in 2010.

The UFL season will begin in August. The game schedule has not been finalized yet.
