Hartford Colonials News Release
EAST HARTFORD, CT - May 17, 2011 - The Hartford Colonials signed safety Jacob Patek, linebacker Harry Coleman and guard Ryan Cave to contracts for the 2011 United Football League season. Terms are not disclosed.
Patek (6-0, 207) was among 119 players who participated at the open tryouts May 14 in Houston, TX. Most recently, he spent time in the Canadian Football League with Montreal (2010) and Hamilton (2009).
Signing with Hartford reunites Patek with Colonials head coach and general manager Jerry Glanville, who was defensive coordinator at the University of Hawaii during Patek's junior season with the Warriors.
"He was awesome to play for in Hawaii. It's just a privilege to be able to play for someone like him, and do it at the professional level," said Patek, who played at Hawaii for two years (2006-07) after transferring from Blinn College.
Coleman and Cave played for the Colonials last year after signing with the team midway through the season. Coleman appeared in four games, making 10 tackles. Cave played two games, including one start.
Prior to joining the Colonials, Coleman (6-2, 206) was on the New Orleans Saints practice squad. In college, he was a two-year starter at LSU and played on the 2007 national championship team. After switching from safety to linebacker for his senior year, Coleman was named Tigers MVP in 2009. He registered a career-high 82 tackles, four sacks and forced three fumbles in 13 games.
Cave (6-4, 340) played at Hampton University in Virginia. He was originally signed by the Colonials on Aug. 22 and participated in training camp before being released. He resigned with the team Oct. 19.
