Mountain Lions Sign 10 Players

Sacramento, CA - TUESDAY, May 24, 2011 - The Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League are continuing to sign players for the 2011 season.

Head coach DENNIS GREEN and the Mountain Lions have signed WILL POOLE (cornerback, USC), KURTIS TAYLOR (fullback, Iowa State), EKOM UDOFIA (defensive tackle, Stanford), PATRICK AFIF (offensive tackle, Washington State), SAM LIGHTBODY (offensive line, Washington State), EDDY NEWTON (receiver, Baylor), JASON PARKER (defensive end, Arizona), TORRIN TUCKER (offensive line, Southern Mississippi), MARIO URRUTIA (receiver, Louisville) and JASON STEWART (nose tackle, Fresno State) to their active roster in the last week.

This is in addition to the seven players that the Mountain Lions signed following open player tryouts earlier this month, as announced in a press release on May 17.

Stewart, Parker, Lightbody, Udofia and Newton each played for the Mountain Lions in 2010. Stewart, Parker and Lightbody all started for Sacramento while Udofia played in three games and Newton caught one pass for seven yards during his time with the team.

All but Newton, among the returners to the team, have some NFL experience. Stewart was with the Indianapolis Colts (2003-05) before playing for the Los Angeles Avengers of the Arena Football League from 2005-08. Lightbody spent time with the NFL's Houston Texans (2005) and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2006), Parker was a practice squad player for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2008 and Udofia spent time in the New Orleans Saints organization before joining the Mountain Lions in 2010. This is the third UFL season for Stewart, Parker and Lightbody.

Tucker played with the Dallas Cowboys (2003-05) and also spent off-season time or was a practice squad player for the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2006), Oakland Raiders (2007) and Houston Texans (2008). He also played in the AFL and the CFL in 2008 and was with the UFL's Florida Tuskers in 2010. He was a starter for the Cowboys in 2004 and 2005.

Poole played in 15 regular-season games for the Miami Dolphins in 2004 and was with Miami until 2006. He has also spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs (2007-08), Toronto Argonauts (2007-09) and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2010).

Urrutia was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2008 and spent part of 2009 with the Bengals, New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also spent some off-season time with the Buccaneers in 2010 before joining the UFL's Harford Colonials.

Taylor is best known as the new face of the KEN DOLL. He is the model for the new likeness of BARBIE's longtime boyfriend (Mattel toys). Taylor tried out for the Mountain Lions at defensive end in 2010 but was cut in training camp.

Afif has played for eight teams over the last five years - Rio Grande Valley Dorados (2006), San Jose Saber Cats (2007), Arizona Rattlers (2008), Toronto Argonauts (2009), Florida Tuskers (2009), New York Sentinels (2009), Orlando Predators (2010) and the Edmonton Eskimos (2010).

The UFL season will begin in August. The game schedule has not been finalized yet.
