August 15, 2011 - United Football League (UFL 1)
Sacramento Mountain Lions News Release
SACRAMENTO, CA - Monday, August 15 - The Sacramento Mountain Lions, of the United Football League, selected six Hartford Colonials in Monday night's reallocation draft.
The Mountain Lions, Omaha Nighthawks, Las Vegas Locos and Virginia Destroyers selected a total of 24 players in a reallocation draft that dispersed players formerly on the roster of the Hartford Colonials among the four UFL clubs.
"Having made the difficult decision to suspend operations in Hartford, we wanted to ensure their talented players have an opportunity to remain within the UFL," said UFL Vice President of Football Administration BRENDAN ROWE. "This Allocation Draft allows every team to add players we know can contribute and improve the quality of each roster.
"We have sent more than 40 UFL Players to the NFL during the past few weeks, and this reallocation underlines the UFL commitment to furthering players' careers at the highest level."
Players who were not drafted will become free agents and may be signed by UFL teams.
The Mountain Lions will kick off their second season on Sept. 17 when they host the two-time reigning champion Las Vegas Locos at Hornet Stadium. The time of the game, as well as the rest of the UFL schedule, will be announced at 10 a.m. on TUESDAY, AUGUST 16.
The Mountain Lions, who selected second in each round, chose KURT QUARTERMAN (offensive guard), JOHN BUSING (safety), JONAS SEAWRIGHT (defensive tackle), JEFF COTTAM (tight end), GREG PETERSON (defensive tackle) and MANNY COLLINS (cornerback). The order of selections was determined by where teams finished in the standings in 2010.
