Morlang\'s hat trick leads Trashers on road in Elmira

John Morlang's hat trick, the first in Danbury franchise history was the capstone in the Trashers' come from behind 6-4 win at Elmira on Wednesday night.

The Trashers fell behind 3-0 in the first period as Jaime Thompson started the scoring for Elmira as he scored at the 4:05 mark from Nathan Gillies and George Pujacs. The Jackals extended their lead as Gillies scored the first of two goals at 6:19 from Thompson, while Jason Sessa capped off the period with a wrap-around goal from Jeff Antonovich and Thompson at 18:13.

Morlang scored the first of his three goals just 50 seconds into the 2nd period as he stripped Trevor Burgess of the puck and scored unassisted. After Gillies' 2nd goal of the night extended the Jackals lead to 4-1, the Trashers scored three unanswered goals in a 2:47 span to tie the game.

Jeff Daw took a pass from Nicholas Bilotto at the 12:39 mark to pull the Trashers to 3-2. Gerry Hickey then netted his first goal of the season from Rumun Ndur at the 14:34 mark, while Morlang's second goal of the night from Jeff Daw tied the score.

Bilotto's goal at the 4:24 mark of the 3rd period from Mike Bayrack and Bruce Richardson was the Trashers' second power play goal of the night and it gave Danbury their first lead of the night at 5-4. Morlang then netted his hat trick goal at 19:03 from Daw and Bilotto.

Scott Stirling stopped 15 of 19 shots to pick up his 29th win of the season while Greg Hewitt managed to stop 41 of 47 shots as the Trashers put 40 shots on net in the final two periods after just managing seven in the first.

The Trashers return home on Friday night as they host Richmond at 7:30pm from the Danbury Ice Arena.
