Stockton Heat News Release

San Jose, Calif. - Stockton Heat forward Morgan Klimchuk scored his first-ever pro goal in the second period, putting the Heat up by three early on, but the San Jose Barracuda stormed back with five-straight goals and defeated the Heat 5-4 at the SAP Center in San Jose Sunday night. It was a big night for Klimchuk, who added an assist on Austin Carroll's goal in the third period, giving both rookies their first multi-point games of their pro career as well. Unfortunately for the Heat, San Jose forward Barclay Goodrow and some key saves from goaltender Troy Grosenick led the home team to the win. The Stockton Heat will now enjoy a little break for the holidays before returning to the ice December 26th for a matchup with the Bakersfield Condors down at Rabobank Arena.

QUOTES

"It was a play that's happened to me a couple times this year that I haven't capitalize on. [Austin Carroll] got a good pass from [Derek Grant] and took it to the net hard. It ended up just sitting there and I was lucky enough to just wack it in." - Morgan Klimchuk on his first pro goal.

"It's relieving for sure because it's been a long time coming. I've had some good games and some bad games but I've been getting some more chances and feeling a bit more comfortable. To get that first point, then keep it rolling with another one felt real good." - Klimchuk on his feelings after earning his first two pro points in the same game.

"Any time you go up by three on the road it's a good start that you want. The five unanswered goals, though, are unacceptable. On a positive note, we have a nice little break coming up, so hopefully we can refresh and come back ready to go." - Drew Shore on his overall take of tonight's game.

"Not really. I thought we got off to a great start. Any time you get the first goal on the road it's an accomplishment, let alone two or three, so I don't think it was an issue at all." - Shore on if the postponement of the outdoor game to force the Heat into games on back-to-back nights affected the team.

"Well there were quite a few things that happened tonight, especially the goal off the faceoff - those are things that should never happen. Those are the mistakes you don't want to see being made. I thought we had a good first period and parts of the second were ok, but I thought the lack of momentum created by our own power play hurt us again. That allowed them to gain some momentum and eventually the win." - Head Coach Ryan Huska on his overall view of tonight's game.

"Everybody wants to compete and help their team win and Morgan [Klimchuk] is a guy that has always produced offensively. He's had a tough start to his pro career, but if he continues to put himself in those positions and be willing to pay a price, then you'll see him score a lot more goals." - Coach Huska on Klimchuk scoring his first pro goal.

"I liked the way we started. I thought our first period was really good, but it was really the second period and the beginning portion of the third period that weren't very good and we didn't play the way we're capable of playing. I really don't think it affected us today at all." - Coach Huska on if he thought the back-to-back games after the outdoor game hurt the team tonight.
