
Moreland Returning to Falcons for Second Season

FRESNO, CALIF. - The Fresno Falcons announced today that the team has re-signed goaltender Jake Moreland for the 2008-09 season.
Moreland appeared in 39 games for the Falcons last season, posting a 22-11-4 record, while finishing tied for 11th among ECHL goaltenders with a 2.64 goals-against average. He was selected as the Falcons Most Valuable Player in a vote of coaches and teammates, and also received two honors from the ECHL last season: Goalie of the Week for the week ending January 13, and Goalie of the Month for January.
"I think it's important to solidify your goaltending this early in the summer," Falcons Head Coach and General Manager Matt Thomas said. "Jake is obviously a premier goalie who gives us a chance to win every night. We look forward to having him back for the 08-09 season."
The 29-year-old enters his sixth professional season in 2008-09. In 151 career professional games, Moreland is 74-45-20 with a 2.64 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage. He has been a member of two championship squads (Atlantic City in 2002-03 and Rockford in 2006-07), and was named to the 2006 ECHL All Star Game while a member of the Stockton Thunder.
The Falcons return downtown to Selland Arena for the 2008-09 season. The home opener is Friday, October 24 against the Bakersfield Condors at 7:30 p.m. Season Ticket packages start at just $432, and are now available by calling the Falcons at (559) 485-7825.
Began in 1988-89 with five teams playing in four states, the Premier âAA' Hockey League has grown into a coast-to-coast league that will have 24 teams in 16 states and British Columbia playing 864 games from Oct. 17, 2008 to Apr. 4, 2009. Nineteen of the 24 teams have played at least five years in their current city.
The third-longest tenured professional hockey league behind only the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League, the ECHL averaged 4,174 per game last season, marking the fourth year in row and the 16th time in the last 18 years that the league has averaged over 4,000 fans. The league has drawn over four million fans each of the last five years and 11 times in the past 12 seasons.
