Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
SIOUX FALLS, SD (February 26, 2009) - The Sioux Falls Canaries have signed right-handed pitcher Angelo Morales to a new contract for the 2009 season. Last year, Morales was 3-0 with a 3.44 ERA in 28 appearances for the Canaries.
"Angelo did a great job coming out of the bullpen for the bulk of last season," said Canaries Manager Steve Shirley. "When we called on him to be a starter at the end of the year, he had success in that role too. He is the type of pitcher who can thrive in any role, the type of pitcher that is very valuable to a staff."
The native of Panama was originally signed by the Royals in August of 2002. He spent five seasons playing in the Royals system before joining the Canaries last year. Morales is 26-17 with a 3.65 ERA in 92 professional appearances.
The Canaries will open the 2009 American Association Season at the Birdcage with a May 14 game against the St. Paul Saints. The Season Premier will feature a Pre-Game Championship Ring Ceremony and a Post-Game Fireworks Display presented by the Canaries 2009 Season Sponsor, First PREMIER Bank and PREMIER Bankcard.
