Moose extend affiliation with Salmon Kings

July 3, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose, the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, today announced an extension to their developmental affiliation agreement with the Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL. The agreement is a one-year extension that will see the Moose and Salmon Kings work together for the third season in a row in order to develop players within the Canucks organization.

The Moose and Salmon Kings originally entered into their affiliation agreement, along with the Vancouver Canucks back on July 18, 2006.

"After the tremendous success of the Salmon Kings last season, we are looking forward to once again working with Mark Morrison and the rest of the organization in 2008-09," said Craig Heisinger, Senior Vice-President and General Manager of the Moose. "The Salmon Kings did a great job providing young players like Daniel Rahimi or Dylan Yeo with the type of atmosphere that we strive to provide here in Winnipeg with the Moose, so it is a good fit."

The Salmon Kings captured their first-ever West Division crown last season with a record of 42-23-4-3. Thanks in part to the guidance of Head Coach and General Manager Mark Morrison, a number of players split time between the Moose and Salmon Kings or made appearances in a Moose uniform last season including defenceman Daniel Rahimi who was a key member of Manitoba's drive towards the Calder Cup playoffs, as well as Dylan Yeo who appeared in nine games on the Moose blueline, along with the likes of forwards Kevin Estrada and Milan Gajic.

The Salmon Kings will kick off their fifth season in the ECHL in October, 2008, while the Manitoba Moose schedule will be announced along with the rest of the American Hockey League schedule in early August.
