Halifax Mooseheads News Release
The Halifax Mooseheads are back on top in the QMJHL standings after a 4-1 Thursday night victory in Acadie-Bathurst.
Mathis Rousseau had his shutout bid snapped in the final minute of regulation but made 27 saves to vault the Herd percentage points ahead of the idle Quebec Remparts who are in a dead heat with Halifax (44-9-4-3) for the number one position in the Q. The Mooseheads and Remparts (46-12-1-2) are even at 95 points apiece, but Halifax has a game-in-hand on Quebec to give them the points percentage lead at .792%.
The league's leading scorer was up to his old tricks as Jordan Dumais put in a first star effort with one goal and two assists to reach 120 points on the season. Alex Doucet banged in his 49th goal of the campaign while Markus Vidicek and David Moravec also lit the lamp. Josh Lawrence had a pair of assists and was named the second star.
The Herd appeared to be well on their way to a shutout victory until Dylan MacKinnon took a roughing penalty at 18:11 of the third period, leading to a Ty Higgins goal with 29.5 seconds left on the clock.
While Dumais leads the QMJHL with 120 points, Lawrence is second with 99 and Doucet is third with 98.
Zachary L'Heureux made his return to the Halifax lineup following a 10 game suspension and played on a line with Josh Lawrence and Braeden MacPhee. L'Heureux was relatively quiet in the game with one shot on goal, one hit and zero penalty minutes. Logan Crosby also got back in the lineup for the first time since suffering an upper body injury in Shawinigan on February 11th. Crosby was on the fourth line with Reece Peitzsche and Brody Fournier and finished with two shots on goal.
The Titan went with an unconventional lineup of nine forwards and eight defenceman due to a variety of injuries in addition to a suspension being served by Joseph Henneberry. The forward was handed a five-game sentence this week after inappropriate language directed at a player in the last meeting between the Mooseheads and Titan on Sunday in Halifax.
These clubs will go at it once again Friday night at 7pm at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre in a rare back-to-back road matchup for the Moose. The road trip will continue again on Sunday in Moncton where Halifax will face the Wildcats at 2pm.
The next Mooseheads home game at Scotiabank Centre is coming up next Wednesday, March 15th against the Titan at 7pm. Tickets are on sale now at TicketAtlantic.com.
