MoonDogs Slip by Huskies

Mankato, Minn.- The Mankato MoonDogs beat the Duluth Huskies on Saturday night by a score of 4-3. The game was called in the sixth inning due to a sudden rain downpour. The MoonDogs scored in the bottom of the sixth inning thanks to a leadoff double by James Roberts (USC). Roberts advanced to third on a passed ball, and then scored on a Brennan Moore (Texas Tech) single to centerfield.

The teams were neck-in-neck the entire game. The ‘Dogs put two runs on the scoreboard in the second inning and Duluth answered right back with two runs of there own in the top of the third. Both teams scored one run in the fifth inning and headed into the sixth inning with the game tied at 3-3. MoonDog pitcher Steven Rice (Vanderbilt) held to Huskies scoreless in the top half of the sixth and then the MoonDogs capitalized at the opportune moment when James Roberts he hit his double and then scored from third on the Brennan Moore single to centerfield.

Steven Rice was the winning pitcher in his relief duty on Saturday night, he now moves to 1-1 on the season. Ryan Ullmann (Concordia-Texas) suffered the loss for the Huskies and now falls to 0-2 on the season.

The MoonDogs will battle the Huskies again on Sunday night in the rubber match of the three game series. The MoonDogs are looking to bounce back after a slow start to the second half of the season by winning the three game series against the Huskies. Sunday is the MoonDogs 10th Season Team Baseball Card giveaway presented by the Disables American Veterans. The first 750 fans will receive a pack of MoonDogs 10th season team trading cards.
