Madison Mallards News Release
MADISON, WI - July 23, 2011. The Madison Mallards will once again play host to the Eau Claire Express, as the two teams prepare for a 6:05 p.m. game Saturday night at the "Duck Pond." The Mallards will look to continue their good play as of late in game two of the three-game set.
After defeating the Express 7-1 Friday behind timely hitting, aggressive base running, and good pitching, the Mallards will turn to Nick Sutherland (Minnesota State- Mankato) Saturday in hopes of getting closer to the .500 mark.
Sutherland is 0-2 this season in 14 appearances, including two starts. He has compiled an ERA of 5.63 in 32 innings pitched. Despite his winless record, the Mallards have had success when he takes the mound, winning in nine of the 14 appearances Sutherland has made.
Tony Vocca (Yavapai) will counter for the Express. Vocca is 1-2 this season with a 2.948 ERA in seven starts. He faced the Mallards back on July 6 in the team's 7-5 win on the final day of the first half.
Saturday will also be the Madison Muskies "Turn Back the Clock Night." The Mallards will be wearing Muskies throwback uniforms and Dr. Jay Hazen Dentistry For Madison will sponsor mesh Muskies Hats, which will be given out to the first 1,000 fans in attendance. Charter Communications will also sponsor the World's Largest 7th Inning Stretch, in which fans can bring their own instrument!
The Mallards will also be hosting their second-annual garage sale on Saturday. The garage sale will be taking place inside the Sports Impressions Team Green Store and in the Diamond Center Courtyard. Old signage and ballpark memorabilia featuring the original Mallards logo will be on-sale along with additional items for fans to enjoy. The garage sale will begin at 4:30 p.m. when the gates open and will close for the day once the game ends.
