July 2, 2014 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Wilmington Sharks News Release
Wilmington, NC - Mike Montville approached the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning for his third plate appearance of the night against Forest City Owls. At that point in the contest, Monvtille was a formidable 2-2 with 4 RBIs, coming from a run scoring triple with two outs in the first and a round-tripper to left field. The homerun was Montville's fourth of the season, and would put the Sharks up for good in the game.
Sharks starter Jon Olczak came into the game with 37 strikeouts, tied for first place in the Coastal Plain League. He would pick up number 38 and 39 in the first two innings, before allowing two runs on three hits in the third inning, which put the Owls up 3-1. NCSU's righty Olczak would hold the Owls off the scoreboard in the fourth and allow a leadoff double to Hunter Bryant in the fifth. Olczak would regain his composure, striking out the next three batters Forest City would send to the plate.
Pat Toohers, Hunter Smith, and Kyler Stout would pitch out of the bullpen, holding the Owls scoreless in the final four innings. Toohers faced seven batters in two innings, striking out three. Smith would allow two hits and a walk in the eighth, but leave two Owls afloat. Kyler Stout, the human victory cigar, would strike out two Owls in the ninth to end the game.
For the first time all season, Steven Linkous was not Wilmington's leadoff batter. Sam Foy would double in the one slot and score a run while Linkous would go 2-4 with two scored runs and a stolen base in the two hole. Shawn Sanders and Collin Steagall would add RBIs to compliment Montville's four.
Wilmington improves to 14-15 as the Forest City Owls fall to 17-13. The Sharks will be at The Shark Tank once again tomorrow to play the Fayetteville SwampDogs. Wednesday night's contest is WWAY night as well as craft beer night!
