Owls Lose Thriller In Forest City

FOREST CITY- After winning eleven of 15 games to finish off the first half of the season, the Forest City Owls were defeated by the Wilmington Sharks on Tuesday night.
The Owls took a 3-1 lead in the top of the third behind RBI's from Hunter Bryant, Devin Wenzel and Joey Hawkins but that's all the offense would get as they opened up the second half with a 7-3 loss.
Danny Sheehan led off the inning with a single before the Owls took the lead, who was one of three Owls players who had a multi-hit game (Bryant and Hawkins).
The Sharks answered with three runs in the third and fifth innings.
Taylor Thurber (2-2) gave up seven runs in four and a 1/3 innings for the Owls, allowing nine hits and striking out five before Orlando Razo, Joe Graziano and Max Cordy held the Sharks scoreless the rest of the way.
Thurber entered tonight's start having allowed just three runs in his previous four starts.
This four road game road trip for the Owls continues Wednesday night as they take on the Wilson Tobs.
The Owls will continue the 2014 season at home Saturday night they take on HP-Thomasville at 7:30. Fans can purchase season tickets, ý season plans and 5-game Fireworks plans by calling the Owls office at 828-245-0000. Key dates for the 2014 season include: Fireworks Games on Saturday July 5th and Saturday August 2nd. Single game tickets are on sale now. The Owls will also take on the Chinese Taipei National team on July 7th. The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 18th season in 2014, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. The CPL has had over 1,100 alumni drafted and 65 of those - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut; while another notable alum - Russell Wilson - won Super Bowl XLVIII.
