
Montreal Matrix gets set for season

Montreal - "Professional basketball will be played in Montreal this fall," announced Pascal Jobin, GM and Coach of the expansion Montreal Matrix professional basketball team. "We are set to begin the 2005-2006 season in November and will play our games at Centre-Pierre-Charbonneau, 3000 Viau Street (Metro Viau)."
In preparation for the upcoming season, to begin in November, the team will hold tryouts on September 3rd and 4th. The tryouts will begin at 10am and will be held at Montmorency College, 475 Boulevard de l'Avenir, Laval Quebec H7N 5H7r. They'll run from 1030am-4pm both days. Ten athletes, selected during the tryouts, will be invited to the Matrix's training camp scheduled to begin on November 1st.
The team will play 18 home games in Montreal and will be part of the Roger Brown Division along with teams from Boston, Long Island, Harlem and Newark. Tickets for the games, already on sale, will be very affordable for all, a unique policy of the ABA. "We want kids and families to be able to afford to come to our games," stated Jobin. "Ticket prices will start at $10 and can be purchased online at www.monbillet.ca or by phone 514 872 6644.
The Montreal Matrix is pleased to announce that it has signed a contract with its first sponsor. Niva Sports, the largest provider of sports uniforms for schools and sports organizations in Quebec, Ontario and the Maritimes, has agreed to provide the Montreal Matrix players and coaching staff with uniforms. Additionally, Niva Sports is teaming up with New Balance to provide basketball shoes.
The team is owned by Serena Locker-Coles, originally from Quebec and now residing in the US and Jerome Williams, star player with the NBA New York Knicks.
In 1986, Pascal Jobin was one of the first French Canadian players to receive a full athletic scholarship to an American University and played for renowned coach Larry Costello. He played professionally in Europe. Upon retirement, he began his coaching career and has had great success in both coaching and developing top plahyers.
