Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release
VANCOUVER, BC - Fredy Montero scored a late goal for a second consecutive match as Vancouver Whitecaps FC played to a 1-1 draw against Columbus Crew SC at BC Place on Saturday.
DOWNLOAD: Postmatch interviews with Dos Santos, Montero, Teibert Head coach Marc Dos Santos made one change to the lineup that defeated Houston Dynamo the previous weekend, bringing on Theo Bair for Michaell Chirinos after the Honduran sustained a knock in training during the week.
The 'Caps were on the front foot for the first 10 minutes of the match, with the best opportunity coming from Russell Teibert on nine minutes after he stole the ball and broke in on goal, testing goalkeeper Eloy Room with a low save.
Columbus scored first on 18 minutes. After a big save on a counterattack, goalkeeper Zac MacMath rushed out to stop a shot from midfielder Pedro Santos, taking him down in the process. The ensuing penalty kick was converted by striker Gyasi Zardes to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
The match was nearly level in the 55th minute when a cross from Bair was deflected off of the far post, before landing fortunately into the arms of Room.
The 'Caps finally found their equalizer at the death, as Ali Adnan crossed to the backpost where Montero was on hand to head in his team-leading eighth goal of the season.
Whitecaps FC next head on the road for their final away match of the season, taking on LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park on Sunday, September 29. The 'Caps then wrap-up their 2019 season at BC Place against Real Salt Lake on Sunday, October 6. For ticket information, visit whitecapsfc.com/tickets.
