Monterey Bay FC News Release
Monterey Bay Football Club (Monterey Bay F.C.) and Montage Health Foundation kicked off Health and Wellness Month with a day dedicated to diabetes awareness over the weekend. Saturday's match between Monterey Bay F.C. and El Paso Locomotive FC was celebrated as Health and Wellness Night at Cardinale Stadium and was capped off with a win for the Union.
Blue Zones Project Monterey County had a presence at the match with a pop-up tent in the Union Plaza, and festivities throughout the night began with the first 2,000 fans receiving a Don't Feed the Diabetes MBFC rally towel. In addition, fans had the opportunity to meet the diabetes "Beast" at the Don't Feed the Diabetes tent in the Beer Garden, and several fans participated in a race against the Beast during halftime.
"Health and Wellness Night went really well, the atmosphere was fantastic," said Monterey Bay F.C. President Mike DiGiulio. "The representation from Montage Health throughout the night was great. The Beast mascot represents a great cause, and its presence added to the flavor of a fun evening."
The Montage Health Foundation proudly supports the fight against diabetes in Monterey County. Their generous grant-making helps fund diabetes prevention programs available to thousands of county residents, resulting in positive healthy lifestyle changes for both adults and children at no cost. In fact, 45% of Monterey County residents have prediabetes or type 2 diabetes and only 1 in 3 know they even have it.
