Monterey Bay FC News Release
SEASIDE, California - Monterey Bay F.C. (3-4-4, 13 points) welcomes FC Tulsa (2-4-6, 12 points) for a 7 p.m. PT midweek kickoff on Wednesday for First Responders Night at Cardinale Stadium in Week 13 of the 2023 USL Championship regular season. Wednesday's match will be broadcast locally via KION on FOX 35 (46.2 over the air, 35 Dish, 47 DirecTV and 3/702 HD Xfinity), with live streaming available on ESPN+.
The Union and FC Tulsa last met near the end of last season with Monterey Bay having just been eliminated from playoff contention. The match took place at ONEOK Field in Tulsa and resulted in a 2-0 loss for the Crisp and Kelp, giving FC Tulsa the current all-time edge at 1-0-0. This will be the first match between the sides played in Seaside, however, so Monterey Bay will rightfully look to even the all-time series with a ship-righting win in midweek.
After stringing together a successful month-long stretch that saw the Union unbeaten in five consecutive league matches (2-0-3), the second-year club ran into an injury buzzsaw and dropped two straight road matches to fall below the playoff line for the first time in 2023. With several key players expected to make their return, a win on Wednesday could set the stage for a soft reset with two-thirds of the campaign left to play.
Meanwhile, FC Tulsa enters the match having just beaten Louisville City FC on the road 2-1 at Lynn Family Stadium for the club's second win of the season. The three points came from a 89th-minute game winner from recently-acquired Phillip Goodrum that lifted the side above the playoff line in the Eastern Conference. Now, FC Tulsa will look to make it two road wins in a row with a victory in Seaside.
"We're looking forward to Wednesday," said Chase Boone. "The Tulsa match is right around the corner. It's our first home game in more than two weeks now, so I know the boys are super excited to get out there and play in front of our fans. We're ready to put on a show."
