Monsters Weekly Storylines
Life on the road is one of many realities of life in the AHL and in early March, the Monsters embark on their longest road trip of the season, a two-week, seven-game jaunt through California and Texas - nearly the entirety of the AHL's Pacific Division. A breakdown of the Monsters roadie - miles traveled, hotels utilized, practice rinks and arenas traversed - would provide an interesting peek behind the curtain at the endurance required by coaches, players, and staffers to navigate a grueling AHL campaign.
With the regular season's end looming in mid-April, the Monsters' hockey operations staff is constantly evaluating its roster and considering its options for the 2018-19 season. Which players will be brought back? Which players will be allowed to move on? An examination of the factors that impact those types of decisions, as well as an exploration of how players can use the remaining games in the regular season to improve their positions heading into the summer months, would provide an interesting peek into the dynamics of managing an AHL roster.
