Cleveland Monsters News Release
SAN ANTONIO, TX - In the fourth of four games between the two teams this season, Cleveland's Lake Erie Monsters defeated the San Antonio Rampage at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, TX on Sunday by a final score of 4-2. With the win, the Monsters improved to 33-19-5-5 overall this season and with a .613 points percentage, remain alone in fourth place in the AHL's Central Division standings.
The Monsters claimed a 1-0 lead at 8:56 of the opening frame as Lukas Sedlak wired home an even-strength left-circle feed with Daniel Zaar and Dean Kukan collecting assists on the play. With time winding down in the first period, Monsters forwards Markus Hannikainen and Trent Vogelhuber combined to feed Josh Anderson at 19:36 for the Lake Erie winger's 15th marker of the season, an even-strength scorcher that beat San Antonio goaltender Reto Berra from the right face-off dot and pushed the Monsters' lead to 2-0.
In the middle stanza, an Oliver Bjorkstrand even-strength goal made it 3-0 Monsters thanks to a slick setup from Sonny Milano and Mark Cundari at 4:50, before Brandon Gormley put the Rampage on the board with a shorthanded score at 7:36. T.J. Tynan made the most of a neutral-zone turnover at 12:43 to net an unassisted tally that made it 4-1 Lake Erie, and ended Berra's night, before San Antonio drew within a pair of goals with an even-strength tip-in from Gary Nunn at 13:56.
After a scoreless third period, Monsters goaltender Joonas Korpisalo's 28 saves proved enough to deliver Lake Erie a victory, while Berra took the loss in net for San Antonio after stopping 17 of 21 pucks before being pulled mid-way through the second period in favor of Roman Will, who stopped each of the 12 Monsters shots he faced the rest of the way.
