Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators beat the Rochester Americans 6-1 with all of the former Amerks picking up points against their old team.
The Binghamton Senators notched the lone goal of the opening period to take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission over the Amerks. Phil Varone slapped home a loose puck in front of Nathan Lieuwen to give him a goal in his first game against his former team. Casey Bailey earned the primary assist with Jason Akeson, who was also involved in the Buffalo-Ottawa trade, being credited with the secondary helper. The B-Sens outshot the Amerks 13-10 over the opening 20 minutes of play.
Casey Bailey made it a 2-0 game just 40 seconds into the second period after he unleashed a wrist shot from the bottom of the right wing circle that beat Lieuwen cleanly. Nick Baptiste cut the Binghamton lead to 2-1 less than two minutes later with his 10th strike of the year. Max McCormick tapped home a great cross-crease feed from Varone to regain the B-Sens' two-goal cushion with a power-play goal with just 1:19 to play in the second to send Binghamton to the final break leading 3-1.
Binghamton notched three goals over the last frame to push the final score to 6-1. Michael Keranen struck first putting home his 11th goal of the season less than six minutes in off assists from Daultan Leveille and Kyle Flanagan. All three former Amerks picked up points on the fifth goal of the night with Jerome Leduc notching the tally and Akeson along with Varone picking up the assists. Newly signed forward Mike Borkowski scored his first professional goal with 48 seconds remaining to push the final score to 6-1.
Chris Driedger earned the win with 30 saves while Lieuwen had 26 stops in the losing effort.
The B-Sens are back on home ice Friday, March 18, when they host the Syracuse Crunch before a rematch with the Amerks on Saturday with both games set to start at 7:05p.m. Fans can purchase tickets by calling the B-Sens Executive Office Monday-Thursday from 9:00a.m. - 5:30p.m. or Friday and Saturday from 8:00a.m. - the game's second intermission.
