Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Cleveland, Ohio - The Lake Erie Monsters defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs 4-0 at Quicken Loans Arena on Saturday night. Stefan Elliott scored two goals and Bill Thomas and Brad Malone each had two points, while Calvin Pickard stopped 17 shots for the shutout.
The Monsters opened the scoring at 18:23 of the opening frame on a power-play goal by Elliott. After picking up a loose puck at the side of the net, Elliott threw it out in front and it bounced off of a body and in the net behind Hamilton Bulldogs starting goaltender Cedrick Desjardins. After 20 minutes of play, Lake Erie led Hamilton 22-4 in shots.
Bill Thomas failed on a penalty shot attempt for Lake Erie as he lost control of the puck at 11:24 of the second period. After 40 minutes of play, the score remained 1-0 for the Monsters and they also held the lead in shots with 33 to Hamilton's 12.
Elliott scored his second goal of the contest to give Lake Erie a 2-0 lead at 5:13 of the third stanza as he snapped wicked wrist shot from the far circle past Desjardins. Just 18 seconds later at 5:31 of the third, Mark Olver made a great move in traffic and lifted the puck over Desjardins. Lake Erie made it 4-0 at 8:24 of the third frame as Thomas put a loose puck behind Desjardins on the power play. Following the goal, Robert Mayer relieved Desjardins. The Monsters outshot the Bulldogs 47-17.
