Cleveland Monsters News Release

CLEVELAND - The AHL's defending Calder Cup Champions, the Cleveland Monsters, proudly powered by Constellation, defeated the Chicago Wolves on Friday at Quicken Loans Arena by a final score of 2-1. With the win, the Monsters improved to 4-7-0-1 overall this season and with a .375 points percentage, currently sit tied for seventh in the AHL's Central Division standings.

After the first 40 minutes slid by scoreless, Chicago's Magnus Paajarvi squeezed an even-strength offering between Cleveland net-minder Anton Forsberg and the left post at 10:49 of the final frame to make it 1-0 Wolves. Then, at 15:54 of the frame, Monsters center Alex Broadhurst hoisted an unassisted wrist shot off Chicago defenseman Vince Dunn's stick and over the left shoulder of Wolves goaltender Pheonix Copley to tie the game at one.

With time winding down in regulation, a mad scramble in front of the Chicago net saw Cleveland defenseman Jaime Sifers swat home what proved to be the game-winning tally at 19:15 thanks to feeds from T.J. Tynan and Daniel Zaar at 19:15 to deliver Cleveland a 2-1 victory and an end to the team's season-long six-game winless streak.

Forsberg improved to 4-3-1 in net for the Monsters by virtue of a 23-save performance, while Copley fell to 1-2-1 between the pipes for the Wolves despite making 31 stops on Friday.

Next up for the Monsters, it's a Saturday rematch vs. Chicago with full coverage, live from The Q, underway at 7:00 pm on 99X, CLE 43 WUAB and the Monsters Hockey Network.
