LAKEWOOD, NJ-Carlos Monasterios threw 8 1/3 innings, allowing just one run, and Lakewood scored five runs in the 6th inning to top Lake County 5-3 at FirstEnergy Park.

Lakewood (34-30) wins their fourth game in a row, while Lake County (32-31) falls to 5.5 games back of Hickory with five games remaining, and they are eliminated. The BlueClaws are four out with five to play.

Monasterios had a 5-1 lead going to the ninth but after getting a strike out, he allowed three straight hits before Garet Hill was summoned for his 7th save. The game ended when Garet Hill got Dustin Realini to fly out to centerfield with the tying run on 2nd base.

Ryan Morris started for Lake County and threw five- shutout innings but was relieved in the 6th by Michael Pontius (0-2), who gave up all five runs.

Charlie Yarbrough and Fidel Hernandez had RBI singles and Welinson Baez a SAC fly to make it 3-0, with Fidel Hernandez at first base and Jay Miller at 3rd. With CJ Henry batting, Fidel Hernandez broke for 2nd and stole the base, and Miller came home on the throw to 2nd. 2B Adam Davis then threw home to try to get Miller but threw high of the catcher Brian Juhl, and Hernandez, whose motor never stopped, scored all the way from first.

Because of an error by Adam Davis earlier in the inning, just two of the runs were earned.

Meanwhile, Monasterios (11-11), who allowed a first inning home run to Carlos Rivero (7), settled in and only allowed one hit after the 2nd inning. At one point, he retired 10 in a row and 18 out of 19. He struck out nine and walked just one.

The series concludes Thursday night at 7:05 and Lakewood sends RHP Edgar Garcia (3-9, 4.39) to the hill against Lake County RHP Paolo Espino (4-4, 3.78).
