At Providence (4/16): Left wing Pascal Pelletier gave the Providence Bruins game one of the 2008 Calder Cup Atlantic Division Semifinals with his first goal of the post-season for a 3-2 overtime win to top the Manchester Monarchs at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Wednesday night. Left wings Petr Kanko and Matt Moulson lit the lamp for the Monarchs. Center Wacey Rabbit and right wing Jeff Hoggan scored in regulation for Providence. Monarchs goaltender Jonathan Bernier took the loss with 34 saves. Bruins netminder Tuukka Rask earned the win with 25 saves on 27 shots. Manchester went 1-for-5 on the power play. Providence was 0-for-5 with the man advantage.
At Providence (4/18): Rookie right wing Jordan Knackstedt scored his first professional playoff tally late in the third period to give the Providence Bruins a 2-0 win over the Manchester Monarchs in game two of the 2008 Calder Cup Atlantic Division Semifinals at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday night. Left wing Pascal Pelletier added an empty net goal for Providence. Monarchs goaltender Jonathan Quick took the loss with 38 saves on 39 shots. Bruins netminder Tuukka Rask earned the shutout with 21 saves. Manchester went 0-for-6 on the power play. Providence was 0-for-8 with the man advantage.
Vs. Providence (4/19): Right wing Jeff Hoggan deflected the puck off of goaltender Jonathan Bernier's pads and into the net as the Providence Bruins took game three of the 2008 Calder Cup Atlantic Division Semifinals with a 3-2 overtime win to top the Manchester Monarchs at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. Monarchs defenseman Troy Milam and left wing Matt Moulson collected the tallies for Manchester. Left wing T.J. Trevelyan and center Wacey Rabbit scored for Providence. Bernier took the loss with 31 saves. Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask earned his third playoff victory with 33 saves. Manchester went 2-for-6 on the power play. Providence was 0-for-7 with the man advantage.
MONARCHS PLAYOFFS NEWS & NOTES
The Manchester Monarchs have advanced to the Calder Cup playoffs for the seventh consecutive season and are currently trailing the Providence Bruins by three games. In the best-of-seven series format, the Monarchs advanced past the first round of the playoffs for the first time during the 2007 Calder Cup playoffs with a win over the Worcester Sharks. Last season's team also advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals by beating the Bruins four games to two but fell to the Hershey Bears in four straight games.
2001-02 Hartford won the Atlantic Division Semifinal series 3-2.
2002-03 Bridgeport won the Atlantic Division Semifinal series 3-0.
2003-04 Worcester won the Atlantic Division Semifinal series 4-2.
2004-05 Providence won the Atlantic Division Semifinal series 4-2.
2005-06 Hartford won the Atlantic Division Semifinal series 4-3.
2006-07 Manchester won the Atlantic Division Semifinal series 4-2 over Worcester. Manchester won the Atlantic Division Final series 4-2 over Providence. Hershey won the Eastern Conference Final series 4-0.
2007-08 Providence leads the Atlantic Division Semifinal series 3-0.
The Monarchs return to the Verizon Wireless Arena for game four of the 2008 Calder Cup Atlantic Division Semifinal Series A on Monday, April 21.

Providence took a 3-0 lead in the series with a 3-2 overtime victory on Saturday night in Manchester to accompany their 3-2 overtime win on Wednesday at the Dunkin' Donuts Center and a 2-0 win in Providence on Friday. The Monarchs look to rebound on home ice with game four in Manchester on Monday.
The No. 1 power play during the regular season has mustered three goals with the man advantage on 17 attempts through three games for a sixth place tie in the AHL with a 17.6-percentage.
Manchester has held the Bruins off the scoreboard when playing with a man down. Providence has not scored on 20 power plays.
The Monarchs have allowed two shorthanded tallies in the series to Providence which ties a franchise record. Manchester also gave up two shorthanded goals during the 2006-07 Calder Cup playoffs.
Manchester was only shutout once during the regular season, 3-0 against the Bruins on April 12, and now once in the playoffs by the same opponent in a 2-0 loss last Friday. The only other time the Monarchs were held scoreless in a playoff game was a 1-0 loss to the Hartford Wolf Pack on April 18, 2006.
Right wing Teddy Purcell leads the Monarchs in scoring with three points (all assists) in three playoff games. All three of Purcell's assists have come with the man advantage.
Monarchs left wing Matt Moulson leads the team in goals with two tallies in the 2008 Calder Cup playoffs. Both of Moulson's goals have come on the power play.
Defenseman Troy Milam recorded two points in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss by tallying a goal and an assist.
Defenseman Davis Drewiske, defenseman Peter Harrold, center David Meckler and right wing John Zeiler each have an assist in the series.
Left wing Petr Kanko scored the first goal of the series for Manchester.

4-15-08 - The Manchester Monarchs (AHL) signed right wing Bud Holloway and center Oscar Moller to amateur tryout agreements.
