MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs couldn't make an early first period lead stand up, and fell to the Worcester Railers, 2-1, Friday night at the SNHU Arena.

The Monarchs (8-5-1-1) dropped their first game to the Railers (6-6-1-0) since Oct. 21.

The Monarchs opened the scoring :45 into the first period when Matt Leitner scored his 1st goal of the season. Colton Saucerman took a shot that missed the net and bounced off the boards behind Worcester's goal. Lowry took control of the puck and tipped it to Leitner who snuck it past Railers goaltender, Eamon McAdam, to put the Monarchs up, 1-0.

Ashton Rome tied the game at 13:53 into the second period. Kellen Jones took a shot on net after receiving a backhanded pass from Chris Langkow and Rome grabbed the rebound and netted his 4th goal of the season past Monarchs goaltender, Charles Williams, to make it a 1-1 game.

The Railers struck again 18:52 into the second period when Matthew Gaudreau scored an unassisted shorthanded goal to make the score, 2-1. Gaudreau intercepted a pass in the neutral zone, came down on a breakaway and took a shot on Williams. The shot ricocheted off Williams' right pad, but Gaudreau scooped it up and put it in the back of the net for his 3rd goal of the season.

Despite outshooting the Railers, 10-5, in the third period, the Monarchs couldn't tie the game, and dropped the contest to their newest rival.

The Monarchs are back on the ice Saturday, Nov. 18 (6 p.m.) when they take on the Adirondack Thunder at SNHU Arena on DEA Night. The Monarchs Care Foundation, Remove the Mask and the DEA will raise funds and awareness for opioid prevention across New Hampshire. For tickets to the game, click HERE .
