Manchester Monarchs News Release
Manchester, N.H. - The Manchester Monarchs announced Friday the signing of former University of New Hampshire center, Austin Block. The 25-year-old is a 5-11, 185-pound native of Denver, Colo., who appeared in 14 regular-season games for the Bakersfield Condors (ECHL) last year after being acquired from Banska Bystrica HC 05 in Slovakia.
"I am excited to have Austin Block signed for the 15-16 season," Head Coach Rich Seeley said. "I believe the Monarchs are better today by adding a player with such strong work ethic and character. I expect Austin to be a key contributor to our group of forwards."
Block totaled 23-points between Bystrica and Bakersfield in 35 combined games, totaling two goals and six assists over 14 games in California.
Prior to turning pro, the right shot skated in 136 games for the UNH Wildcats from 2009-2013. Block was named a Hockey East All-Academic team selection for the 2011-12 season, and in his senior season, Block tied for the team lead in goals (15), registering six of them on the power play.
"I couldn't be more excited to be a part of the Manchester Monarchs organization," Block said. "The University of New Hampshire and the state of New Hampshire were places I called home for four years and I'm proud to represent them again on a professional stage. I have high hopes for this season and am anxious to get things under way."
Block and the Monarchs will open the 2015-16 season at home Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. as they host the Brampton Beast at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Individual-game tickets for Opening Night go on sale to the public on Oct. 1 at 9 a.m.
