Real Maryland Monarchs News Release

On Friday, July 16th, Real Maryland FC will travel to Charleston, South Carolina to play the Battery in a pivotal game at Blackbaud Stadium. This will be the third time this season that these two have matched up with Charleston winning the first 1-0 and the two teams tying the second. The Battery (8-3-3, 27 points) enter the game in first place in the table of USL -2 while Real Maryland (3-6-5, 14 points) continue their playoff push as they sit in sixth place, but are just 5 points out of the third playoff spot.

Real Maryland enters the game following a tough 3-2 loss to Harrisburg on July 10th. Mason Trafford and Ben Hunter scored second half goals as the Monarchs attempted to rally from a three goal deficit but ultimately came up short. Charleston enters the game coming off a win against Richmond where Charleston Battery defender O'Brian Woodbine scored the game-winner.

Charleston will be without Woodbine against the Monarchs however after receiving two yellow cards in his last match. The Battery will also be without veteran defender John Wilson was also ejected from the match after receiving a red-card in stoppage time. Real Maryland FC matches this loss as Captain Gareth Evans, due to card accumulation, will be out for both the weekend's contests.

On Saturday, July 17th, the Real Maryland Monarchs will be traveling from Charleston to Charlotte to play the Eagles. The Charlotte Eagles (5-6-4, 19 points) currently sit in 3rd place in the standings while Real Maryland FC (3-6-5, 14 points) continues to make a push for the playoffs. Charlotte is coming off of a friendly with EPL side Bolton Wanderers on Wednesday, July 14th, which saw the Eagles lose 3-0.

In the Last two meetings between the two teams, Real Maryland has yet to concede a goal. The first meeting was a hard fought 0-0 battle with action swinging both ways but neither team could find the back of the net. In the second match-up Charlotte put plenty of shots on goal but could not get the ball past Goal Keeper Brian Levey.

Real Maryland's defenders and midfield did a good job of halting the Eagles attack as Real Maryland came away with a 2-0 victory at home. That win against Charlotte was Real Maryland's last win in league play as the Monarchs went on a 3 game losing skid. The Monarchs hope to turn that around and help themselves get into the upcoming playoffs as there are only 6 games left for the Monarchs and they currently sit at 6th in the standings for USL - 2.

Real Maryland FC will return home for a game on Sunday, July 25th at 6:30 pm where they will take another shot at League leaders the Charleston Battery.
