Moller And Santorelli Selected As WHL All Stars
March 20, 2008 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Chilliwack Bruins News Release
Chilliwack BC - In what has been a week of accolades for the Chilliwack Bruins, with Mark Santorelli, Nick Holden and Evan Pighin all receiving notices for their play, the WHL today awarded their Western and Eastern Conference All Star Selections, and the Bruins were once again well represented.
Forward Oscar Moller was recognized as a Western Conference first team All Star at forward. The Spanga, SWE native was the only European player recognized by the WHL in either All Star Selections or Awards nominations. Moller,(89), led the Bruins in goals with a team record 39 markers. Oscar also chipped in with 44 assists for 83 points and finished 10th in league scoring, despite only playing in 63 games.
Forward Mark Santorelli adds to his impressive week. Having already captured the Bob Clarke trophy as the WHL's leading scorer, Santorelli, (88), was named as a WHL Western Conference Second Team All Star, also at the forward position. Mark as mentioned led the WHL in scoring with 27 goals and 74 assists for 101 points. Mark was the only Bruin to participate in all 72 Bruins games this season and his next game on Friday will mark his 150th consecutive game as a Bruin. âI am excited for both Oscar and myself to be named as WHL All Stars,' comments Santorelli, at today's WHL media conference in Vancouver. âI am also proud to win the WHL scoring title. While it is exciting for me to win the scoring title, my 74 assists shows everyone that this accomplishment would not happen without the support of my teammates. I share this award with them and look forward to battling alongside them in the playoffs.'
The Bruins begin their 2008 WHL Western Conference Quarter Final Series this Friday and Saturday with Game 1 and 2 in Vancouver. Game 3 and 4 will take place at Prospera Centre in Chilliwack on Tuesday, March 25th and Wednesday, March 26th. Tickets for Games 3 and 4 can be purchased at the Prospera Centre box office or online at Ticketmaster.ca.
