Moises Sierra Homers but Fisher Cats Fall 3-1 to SeaWolves

Erie, PA - Moises Sierra hit his eleventh home run of the season, but the Fisher Cats fell in Erie 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Despite the loss, the Fisher Cats (41-27) finished a successful 4-2 roadtrip to Akron and Erie and moved back into first place in the Eastern Division of the Eastern League.

Erie (33-34) scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning against Fisher Cats starter Joel Carreno. Jamie Johnson singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Michael Rockett. He took third on a single by Francisco Martinez and scored on a wild pitch.

The Fisher Cats came back to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the second inning on a solo home run by Sierra, one of only two hits the team had on the day. Anthony Gose had the other hit, an infield single off winning pitcher Ramon Garcia (2-2) in the sixth inning.

The SeaWolves moved back in front in the fourth inning. Michael Bertram (2-for-3, 2 R) singled and stole second, scoring on a single by Audy Ciriaco to give Erie a 2-1 lead.

Carreno left after working the first five innings, allowing four hits and two runs. He walked three and struck out seven. It was his tenth consecutive start with at least seven strikeouts.

Erie added an insurance run against reliever Ronald Uviedo in the bottom of the sixth inning. Bertram doubled, moved to third on a bunt single by Shawn Roof, scoring on a single by C. J. Retherford to make it 3-1.

Erie relievers Austin Wood and Chance Ruffin combined to pitch three scoreless innings in relief with Ruffin setting down the side in order in the ninth for his eighth save.
