Mohegan Wolves News Release
NEW LONDON, Conn. (April 24, 2003) â The Mohegan Wolves (arenafootball2) face their second road test of the 2003 season when they travel to Greensboro, NC to take on the Greensboro Prowlers Saturday night in a non-divisional affair. The Wolves (3-0) are looking to keep up the momentum gained from their current and franchise-best three-game winning streak.
Greensboro (2-1) comes into Saturday's contest on the strength of its most recent 45-42 road victory at Florida. The Prowlers scored 14 points in each quarter but the fourth, while improving to second place in the American Atlantic, trailing only the Norfolk Nighthawks.
Wolves Game Three Recap â 4/18/03 â In last week's game vs. Albany, Wolves WR/DB Anthony Comer preserved Mohegan's 52-45 win when he broke up a fourth-down pass by Ryan Vena intended for Conquest OS Corey Hill. Mohegan QB Ryan Tracey completed 9-of-17 passes for 153 yards and four touchdowns to earn Game MVP honors. The Wolves also swept the two other awards given out on the night. WR/DB Lance Small was named Ironman of the Game for his impressive two-touchdown performance. Small scored twice in the second quarter in a span of just 23 seconds. His first touchdown came on an 11-yard fumble recovery while his second came by way of a 25-yard pass from Tracey. Mohegan FB/LB LaJhon Jones earned the ADT Defensive Player of the Game with two tackles for loss, including one sack and one forced fumble. Offensively, Jones again led the team in rushing with 12 yards and one touchdown.
This Saturday's matchup at a glance â Mohegan Wolves at Greensboro Prowlers This will be the first-ever meeting between these two teams and only head-to-head affair of 2003. Last season the Prowlers and Wolves both struggled with identical 3-13 records. This year Greensboro has started strong, winning two of its first three games. The Prowlers are led defensively by DS Michael Posey. Posey ranks second in af2 with 20 tackles, 18 unassisted. As a unit, the Greensboro defense ranks sixth in the league in scoring, holding their opponents to just 34.3 points per game. On the other side, the Wolves will look for more firepower from OS Mel Long and QB Ryan Tracey this week after their strong showings against Albany. Long currently ranks in the top 10 in the league in touchdown receptions with six. The rookie receiver from Toledo had a career-best three touchdown catches against the Conquest on just four receptions. Tracey is currently high among the league leaders in passer rating, ranking fifth overall at 115.6. Mohegan's stingy defense should also play a key role in the game. The Wolves rank sixth overall in total defense, limiting their opponents to just 195.3 yards per game.
