Glens Falls Dragons News Release
Glens Falls: If you're Amsterdam it seems like the calls always go your way as they have won 20 out of their last 22. If you're the Eagles you wonder why me. Amsterdam scored the eventual game winning run on a very controversial call in center as they won 5-4.
The play in question came in the top of the 8th inning and Thomas Kain (Lynn) barreled up a Jack Fowler (Felician) delivery and drove it to the fence where Danny Oliveri (Triton) appeared to scale the wall and make the catch; however there was confusion if the umpire made a call and Kain didn't break stride as he ran for third and would score on a throwing error by Oliveri.
The game was a back and forth battle as the rivals traded blows on the scoreboard with the Eagles drawing blood first when they scored 3 runs in the second inning. John Lynn (Wagner) drove in a run with a double down the left field line and Colton Montgomery (Georgia College) would bring home 2 runs with a single up the middle.
Amsterdam would answer back with 2 runs in the 3rd and one in the 4th. Jon Razzino (Franklin Pierce) would plate the first run of the 3rd with a bases loaded infield single which was followed up with a painful RBI by Joe Purritano (Dartmouth) as he was hit by a pitch also with the bases loaded. The lone run in the 4th came on a sac fly by Marcus Carson (Kentucky) which tied the game at 3 runs a piece.
Glens Falls and Amsterdam would each score in the 6th inning as both teams wouldn't let the other get the upper hand but each in its own way. Thomas Kain used brawn as he led off the Amsterdam half with a high drive to left that landed in the street beyond the fence. Glens Falls used brains as they had runners on the corner and the runner on first Ryan Dodge (Nova Southeastern) got the attention of the pitcher and got into a pickle that allowed JQ Folena (Cabrillo) to score from 3rd.
