Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs News Release

LITTLE FALLS, NY - The Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs came exasperatingly close to knocking off the Watertown Rapids on Tuesday night. They put the tying run at the plate in the top of the ninth before going down quietly to the Rapids, 8-4.

The very next day, the Diamond Dawgs took out their frustrations on the visiting Glens Falls Dragons, scoring four in both their first and last batting innings to knock off the Dragons, 8-4.

Ryan Hernandez (Boston, MA/SUNY Albany got Mohawk Valley off on the right foot just three batters in. Glens Falls starter Mitch Guerreri (Greentown, PA/Goldey-Beacom) put the first three Diamond Dawgs on base. Then, Hernandez would make him pay with an RBI double that would score Joey Castellanos (Nutley, NJ/UMass Lowell). Joel Alvarez (Hainesport, NJ/Barry) would bring the rest of them home with his first home run of the season. His home run, a short one that just cleared the left field fence, brought home himself, John LaRocca (Plainview, NY/Monmouth) and Hernandez.

Nate Cobb (Massillon, OH/Malone) brought home the first Glens Falls run on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth. Nick Kondo (Saratoga Springs, NY/SUNY Albany) would also come home just one batter later on a one-out grounder by Danny Ryan (Breezy Point, NY/Fairfield).

Brandon Abdul (Old Bridge, NJ/Goldey-Beacom) cut the Mohawk Valley lead to one in the top of the sixth, hitting an RBI single just out of the reach of the Diamond Dawgs' first baseman to score Andrew Stanley (/Arkansas '18).

Ryan Toohers (Florham Park, NJ/Villanova) extended the lead back to two in the bottom of the eighth, bringing home Hernandez on an RBI single to right field. Toohers would come home himself on a wild pitch by Glens Falls reliever Brandon Budlong (Cranston, RI/College of St. Rose). Mike Young would snap a 2-for-12 night for Mohawk Valley's bottom of the order with an RBI triple to right field that would score Alvarez. JD Davis (Goose Creek, SC/The Citadel) would get into the scoring, knocking a blooper into right-center field that scored Young.

That would be all Alexis Calderon (Bethlehem, PA/Manhattan) would need to end the game, only allowing two Glens Falls hits to end the game

Mario Ferraioli (Colts Neck, NJ/Iona) picked up the win for Mohawk Valley (9-6), while Guerreri got the loss for Glens Falls (8-7).

The Diamond Dawgs will be on the road in Boonville on Thursday for the first half of a home-and-home series with the Adirondack Trail Blazers. The same two teams will play again on Friday at Veteran's Memorial Park. The Dragons will finish up their brief two-game road trip on Thursday at Damaschke Field for a game with the Oneonta Outlaws, before heading back to East Field on Friday for a game with the Albany Dutchmen.
