Geneva Red Wings News Release
GENEVA, N.Y. - The Geneva Red Wings drop to 7-9 on the 2018 season with a loss at home against the Saugerties Stallions 3-1. Saugerties pitcher #17 Nick Zwack (Xavier) took the win on the mound while Geneva pitcher #33 Stephen Branche (RIT) nabbed the loss. Branche's time on the mound consisted of 5 full innings with 6 strikeouts and gave up 2 runs on 4 hits.
The Red Wings lone run was scored in the first inning by #6 Nick Carnevale (Brookdale) off a sac-fly by his teammate #31 Nick LaBrasca (Youngstown State). Other notable Red Wings performances were #7 Jesse Hall (LB Wallace College), who had 2 hits and #11 Justin Barr (Central Alabama CC) who notched a double in the bottom of the seventh inning to up the Wings' momentum. Ultimately though, it was a slow night for the Red Wings who struggled to get the bats hot after the first inning and did not score again after LaBrasca's RBI.
Saugerties' #20 Tyler Kelder (St. Bonaventure) had 2 hits and 2 RBI's to secure the win for the Stallions. The Stallions scored 2 runs in the third inning and 1 run in the seventh inning, capitalizing on the Wings' struggles and advance to 6-9 on the season.
Geneva gets back on the road again Thursday, June 21st as they take on The Jamestown Jammers at 7:05pm in Jamestown. This will be the third meeting between the Wings and the Jammers, as Geneva will look for redemption after losing to Jamestown in both games.
