Glens Falls Dragons News Release

Glens Falls, NY - The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs held off a late rally from the Glens Falls Golden Eagles to move back over .500 with a 6-5 victory. A crowd 420 fans at East Field in Glens Falls, New York watched as the DiamondDawgs (8-8) held off a ninth inning surge from Glens Falls (8-8) for the one run victory.

Even Ross earned the win for Mohawk Valley to improve to 1-1 on the season with a six inning effort and Tony Urban took the loss as he fell to 1-1. Salvatore Lisanti came on to earn his fourth save of the season as he closed out the contest in the final innings, despite giving up his first run of the season.

The game got off to an interesting start as Mohawk Valley loaded the bases in the first, but Urban was able to work out of it. Neither team struck again until the top of the third inning, when both teams struck for three runs. Back to back doubles from Jack Morrow and Eric Helmrich plated two runs in the top half of the inning. Glens Falls struck back with a sacrifice fly from Ross Kivett and an RBI single from Chase Griffin.

After a scoreless fourth, Mohawk Valley struck again in the fifth as Tyler Heck came across to score as Urban tried to pick off Helmrich at first, but he threw it into right field. The DiamondDawgs plated two more in the sixth as catcher Luke Nethaway hit a solo homerun, which ended Urban's evening. Cory Folk came on in relief, but after a swinging bunt single from Tom Valichka, Heck's double knocked in the team's fifth run.

Folk would respond to strike out the side in the seventh before the Golden Eagles fought back as Casey Rodrigue scored on an RBI single by Kivett. Kivett tried to steal second, which gave him his fourth steal of the evening, and as Nethaway threw down, Foricer stole home to cut the lead to one.

Mohawk Valley added an insurance marker in the ninth as Glens Falls closer Jared Cheek surrendered an RBI double, which scored the base runner who Cheek inherited from Jake Doller. The Golden Eagles fought back once again in the bottom of the ninth as Kivett again sparked a rally with a two out double. He advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on an error from Morrow at first, on a tough hop off of the infield dirt, which was then bobbled.

The run scored was the first run of any kind scored against Lisanti this season. Mike Vigliorolo stepped up to the plate with a chance for late game heroics, but it was not meant to be as he struck out swinging for the one run loss.

Both teams are back in actions tomorrow as Glens Falls heads to Cooperstown for a 5PM start time and Mohawk Valley travels back home to host the league leading Amsterdam Mohawks. Game time is set for 7PM.
